Mitsubishi Electric and its partners supply and install air conditioning systems. Engineers were required to complete a lengthy paper-based log book during installation of these systems to record details specific to each system. A number of manual calculations were also required. These logs were then returned to Mitsubishi's offices in Hatfield where a subset of the collected information was manually entered into an Access database for warranty validation. Not only did the manual data capture cause field engineers considerable frustration, but costs for the paper log books themselves were quite high.
TekMedic developed a system to remove the need for these paper-based logs and use low-cost Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) to capture the necessary data at source. When the engineer returns to their office, the captured data is automatically transferred from the PDA to Mitsubishi via the Internet. |
